Homo Habilis

Life sized Skull

Homo Habilis is the earliest of our ancestors to show a significant increase in brain size and also the first to be found associated with stone tools. The word habilis is based on the Latin word for ‘handy’ or ‘skilful’. This species known as ‘handy man’ because stone tools were found near its fossil remains and it is assumed this species had developed the ability to modify stone into tools. The skull here is a copy of a fossilized skull known as KNM ER 1813 that was discovered 1973 in Koobi Fora, Kenya and is estimated to be 1.9 million years old.

It comes in two colors

You can purchase this handmade skull in two colors:
1. Brown
2. Off-grey/white

…and with or without wooden baseplate with real brass rod, around 22cm in height.

You will get one skull, in the color you want, with or without baseplate. The stuff you see in the pictures, that is not the skull, is for size comparison only and not part of your purchase.

The skull you will get looks like the one in the photos, but can be a little bit different in details, because you will get a unique art sculpture with date and signed under the base. Made by order, I send you a picture of your skull, when it’s ready for shipping.

The wooden base is like the one of my Velociraptor Skull, but 15 x 12cm in size and is made from German beech wood with multiple coats of oil, colored varnish and real violin chellac polish and messing brass rounds. On the underside are felt pad’s.

I use real theater and movie techniques for wheatering the models for looking like an old specimen.

It is made with mixed media, epoxy clay and resin. I only use the highest quality art paints and materials for my models and it’s made by hand in my art studio in Germany.
